Biography

Daughter of the MP Sir Philip Jennings Clerke and of Anne, daughter of Col. Richard Thompson of Jamaica and Coley Park Reading. The executors of Frances Jennings (General Sir Tomkyns Hilgrove Turner and William Davidson, each of whom q.v.) were awarded the compensation for two estates in St Thomas-in-the-East and for a smaller award in Vere (for the latter the testator was shown as 'Francis' Jennings in the compensation records). The will of her father Sir Philip Jennings Clerke is silent on Jamaica property, while the will of her brother Sir Charles Philip Jennings is extremely brief, leaving everything to his sister Frances Jennings upon her paying £3000 to their uncle John Jennings.

  1. Will of Frances Jennings spinster was proved 15/11/1821. The will is headed 'Berlin November 30th 1817'. In the will she left £3000 to 'my dear George Henry Rose' and her real estate in the county of Berks. and in Jamaica in trust to Sir Tomkyns Hilgrove Turner for the benefit of her niece Frances, the wife of George Henry Rose (q.v.). She identified her deceased brother as Sir Charles Philip Jennings bart. There are a series of codicils largely providing legacies for her great nieces and nephews dated down to 1819.
